Frequently Asked Questions
Who are you?
The Children’s Aid Foundation of Halton (CAFH) was founded in 1990 as a registered charitable organization to raise funds for the children and youth being cared for by the Halton Children’s Aid Society (Halton CAS).The Stardust Gala is our signature fundraising event.
What does the Gala support?
Children and youth who are receiving services from the Halton Children's Aid Society. Specifically, programs that are not covered by government funds such as: post-secondary education, after-school programs, summer camp, tutoring, homelessness prevention and seasonal support and celebrations.
How many children and youth get help?
Annually the Halton CAS supports well over 5000 children & youth, including an average of 250 homeless youth.
Doesn't the government pay for these programs?
Government funding is for the operational needs of the Halton CAS. There is a limited amount of money available from the government per child for education. It covers part of the tuition fees and no other requirements. The other programs and activities funded by the Children's Aid Foundation of Halton are considered to be an enhancement of the mandated work of CAS and are not covered by the government.
Do all CAS's provide these extra programs?
No. That's what makes our Stardust Gala so important. In Halton we are able to offer so many more opportunities to children and youth in need because of the wonderful success of this event. The Children's Aid Foundation of Halton has provided over $5.7M to open doors and make lives better for literally thousands of children and youth in this community.
What are your administration costs?
The admin costs of the Children’s Aid Foundation of Halton are approximately 14%. In 2013 an investment was made with proceeds from a sale of property. We are very proud to say that interest from the investment is used to offset the cost of running the organization, allowing donations from the community to go directly to the children and youth in need.
Do you provide a charitable receipt?
Yes. We issue charitable receipts for cash donations and gifts in-kind. We just need proof of retail value with the gift in-kind. Corporate sponsorships are not eligible for a charitable receipt BUT the contribution is 100% deductible. We are incredibly grateful for any support we receive.
We get many requests, what makes your cause different?
We know there are many good causes in Halton and we truly appreciate your interest in the Children's Aid Foundation. The children and youth we serve have nowhere else to turn. We act as their parents and guardians by providing hope, healing, opportunity and a little bit of fun to youth who, with your help, will discover their strengths, realize their dreams and become happy, healthy adults in this community.
