Bursaries & Education

Bursaries & Education

We believe education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and abuse; increasing a child’s self esteem, confidence, and ability to succeed.

We believe education, at all levels, will lead to success, no matter how it is measured.

Since post secondary education is not funded by the government, Crown Wards (children with no parental support whatsoever), rely on the Halton Children’s Aid Society to pay for any post high-school education that might benefit them. Since the Halton CAS and CAFH believe strongly that education is the first step towards a brighter future they work together to make educational opportunities available to all Crown Wards of the Society.

These educational programs could be a personal enhancement workshop, a vocational program, community college diploma or a University degree; whatever the child has a passion for, that their social worker feels is an attainable goal, will be strongly encouraged by our Bursary committee and Graduation_Cakefunded by the CAFH.

Post-Secondary Bursaries

When a child in care graduates from high school we recognize what they must have overcome to reach that goal. To further encourage these children we grant bursaries to those who pursue post secondary education.

A $1,000 donation allows 1 youth to attend a course/s at community college.

Tutoring Program

This program helps each child achieve appropriate grade levels in reading and math. This instills positive growth and encourages children to feel good about themselves

A $1,000 donation allows 2 children to attend a full year of Kumon.
