Julie Sergi-Waxman
Executive Director
Tina Blatchford
Tina has over 20 years experience working with the Halton Children’s Aid Society in a great variety of roles. The most memorable of those roles has been working first hand with children & youth who are being raised by Halton CAS with little or no support from their parents. Forever changed by hearing their initial stories of abuse, neglect or trauma, then by watching their courage and resilience, and finally witnessing the success of strong, confident young adults pursuing education and dreams of a new life Tina was moved to do something more than her day to day work.
Tina joined the Board in 1998 realizing that this was a way to ensure children involved with CAS received every chance possible to face their challenges, discover who they are and create a path for success.
In 2004 the position of Executive Director was offered to Tina. To take on this position Tina resigned from the Board and assumed this new role in partnership with CAS where she could watch the children grow. She says that fundraising will always be a challenge, there are so many variables to consider, but believing in the cause and knowing that the funds raised are giving real and meaningful opportunities to young people makes all the effort worthwhile.
Out of her many years of experience Tina has realized that the community wants to help, once they understand that Halton has children in need. She tells anyone who will listen; “Happy childhood memories of family gatherings, times with best friends, favourite pets, special birthdays are so precious; most of the children who come to us don’t have those happy memories. They’ve lost their innocence and the sparkle is gone – believing in the programs that CAS offers to children and youth means that I will do everything possible to sustain those programs and spread awareness to the cause..…..and I want to put the twinkle back in the eyes of these children”.
